Thank you for adding a new blog, it's so nice to read more of families with children with autism. I wanted to share something with you as well, it's a clip of a boy recovered from his autism and I think they did it in a very nice and loving way. The program they have used is the son-rise program and it's all about accepting the child for who he of she is. For me it was very inspiring to watch what is possible if you really want something and that thinking outside of the box can really get you somewhere. Maybe you'll like it too :).

DAN Doctors (Defeat Autism Now)

If you haven't heard of a Dan Doctor they by many standards are doing great work with people with autism. I am only aware of one in Utah so I am posting his info. Also a friend of mine is seeing one from Helena, MO that she likes so I also am posting his number. They try to solve what's going on from the inside out. Usually involving chelation, diet, and vitamins. All different methods depending on the circumstance. If your reading this and you have seen a Dan doctor please email me and let me know what you thought or leave a comment so that you can help others decide if they feel like it would be worth their time.

TOP SPORTS

Top Sports runs in 5 week sessions, and is held on Thursdays. This is an amazing program that allows your child with a disability to come and enjoy an activity with the help of a great team while you get to sit back and enjoy watching them. The cost is $15 , and if interested contact Ross Menlove at 435-279-4967. Here is a list of the current activites scheduled.

April- Soccer at the Sports Arena ESA Sport in Hyde Park west of the highway.
August - T-Ball in River Heights
November - Basketball in Smithfield
January - Art at the Eccles in Logan
March - Bowling at Logan Lanes

Why I wanted to do this ...

I remember when we first heard your child has scored as having Autism. I thought ohhhh, and here I thought he did so well interacting during his testing better than his normal at that time. To say the least I found I was in the dark about what was actually going on with my child, and how he was experiencing the world differently than I or anyone else I knew at that time. I wanted to learn, I wanted answers, and I wanted to know my options. This blog is my way of paying forward resources I have found over the last 4 years. FLOORTIME- Is based around DIR Model and is a fun way to build engagement, and teach at the same time. For us it was the first thing that made a big difference as I learned following my childs lead was the key to his engagement. I needed to do everything he was doing even if it seems strange or not entertaining at all. Slowly he began to realize hey I am not alone there is someone else here who likes to do what I like to do.

ABA APPLIED BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS- ASSERT provides this therapy which they are located in the Center for Persons with Disabilites. They have a preschool, but also offer consultation services for all ages.

SON RISE PROGRAM-

MUSIC THERAPY- We always like the Spectrum Connections video's you can find them at http://www.amazon.com/

SPEECH THERAPY- You could receive speech therapy through your early intervention program, through the school district, or you could pay for it through clinical services at the Center for Persons with Disabilites.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY- Can be offered through the school district or throught the Center for Persons with Disabilites or I know Cache Kids I believe it is called behind the mall also has Occupational therapy. The trouble is finding a way to get your insurance to pay for this therapy.

SENSORY INTEGRATION-Often incorporated through occupation therapy a good read to help understand Sensory issue's is the Out of Sync Child, and the sequel with activities to follow The Out of Sync Child has fun.

HBOT-Oxygen TherapyHigh-Pressure Chambers May Ease AutismStudy Tries To Confirm Previous Notions

Putting children with autism in high-pressure chambers with extra oxygen to breathe can ease their symptoms, researchers said.
A team studied 62 children ages 2 to 7 in a study that randomly chose which children got 40 hours of treatment and which got a lower level of oxygen and pressure. Neither doctors nor patients knew which was which. That is considered the best way to get reliable results.
The patients were then judged on three scales used to determine severity of autism.
Children with autism in the treatment group had significant improvements in overall functioning, language skills, social interaction, eye contact and sensory awareness.
A news release on the study did not say, however, how significant the improvements were.
The release said that previous reports claimed benefits from hyperbaric therapy, but it had not been put through a rigorous scientific study.
The study was published in the journal BMC Pediatrics

BIOMEDICAL TREATMENTS-Super-Nu-Thera, B12 shots
vitamin mixtures of all sorts recommended usually by a DAN doctor. Defeat Autism Now doctor. This is a short list compared to the large amount of variations of things people are trying.

Gluten Free Caesin Free Diet- Often individuals with Autism suffer from what they refer to as a leaky gut. Many families have found their children have allergies that do not show up on a standard allergy test, and when trying the diet they have seen amazing results.
